Official Count of the Uninsured: 50.7 Million People

The number of people without health insurance rose 9.4% to 50.7 million people in 2009, the highest number of uninsured since 1987, the U.S. Census Bureau reported. That represented 16.7% of the U.S. population in 2009 compared with 15.4% in 2008.
